Delegation of the Holy Synod of the UOC meets with His All-Holiness Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople

On June 23, 2018, with the blessing of His Beatitude Metropolitan Onufriy of Kyiv and All Ukraine, the permanent members of the Holy Synod of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Their Eminences: Metropolitan Agafangel of Odessa and Izmail, Metropolitan Ilarion of Donetsk and Mariupol, Metropolitan Feodor of Kamianets-Podilskyi and Horodok and the  UOC Administrator  Metropolitan Antoniy of Boryspil and Brovary met with His All-Holiness Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople at his residence in Istanbul (Constantinople). The meeting was also attended by Archpriest Mykolay Danylevych, Deputy Chairman of the Department for External Church Relations of the UOC (UOC DECR), and Verkhovna Rada Deputy V. V. Novinskyi.

Attending the meeting from the Patriarchate of Constantinople were, Their Eminences: Metropolitan John (Zizioulas) of Pergamon, Metropolitan Emmanuel (Adamakis) of France, Metropolitan Bartholomew of Smyrna, Hierokiriks of the Ecumenical Patriarchate Archimandrite Vissarion (Komzias), as well as Protosynkellos Archimandrite Ambrose (Chorozidis).

The members of the Holy Synod of the UOC travelled to Constantinople for the purpose of obtaining reliable information from Patriarch Bartholomew himself regarding initiatives for the possible granting of a Tomos for Autocephaly, as well as for the purpose of communicating the position of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church on this issue. The hierarchs also informed the patriarch about the current situation of church life in Ukraine.

On behalf of His Beatitude Metropolitan Onufriy, the Ukrainian hierarchs conveyed an invitation to His All-Holiness Patriarch Bartholomew to send a representative to Kyiv to celebrate the 1030th Anniversary of the Baptism of Kyivan Ruś where according to tradition representatives from all Local Orthodox Churches will be taking part.

The meeting took place in an open, frank, constructive and fraternal atmosphere. During their stay at the Phanar, the Ukrainian Church delegation also visited the Patriarchal Cathedral of St. George the Victorious.
