SWEDEN. UOC Representatives pray for the repose of Holodomor victims

With the blessing of His Beatitude Metropolitan Onufriy of Kyiv and All Ukraine, on November 25, 2017, His Eminence Metropolitan Luka of Zaporizhzhya and Melitopol, who is on a pastoral visit to Sweden, led the memorial service for the repose of Holodomor victims who were murdered during the rule of the godless Soviet regime. The Memorial prayers were offered up in the Orthodox Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker in the city of Boliden (Västerbotten County, Sweden). Concelebrating with Metropolitan Luke were clergy from the Zaporizhzhya eparchy of the UOC, who are accompanying His Eminence during his pastoral visit to Sweden. Also taking part in the trip is the Deputy Chairman of the Department for External Church Relations of the UOC Archpriest Mykolay Danylevych.

In his moving tribute after the Panakhyda, Vladyka Luka pointed out:

“What was the main thing that the communist regime had lost? – God! And we may see what this inevitably leads to: a society that lives without God does not only turn into something worse than a wild animal. It is doomed to self-destruction”

“Today, the Mother Church prays for all the victims who perished as a result of terrible, inhumane events, and raises its voice in order that everyone once again starts to wonder to what extent one may fall if God is taken out of one’s life. This is a sure path to self-destruction, to self-ruination. A path that does not possess any moral norms or bounds, – emphasized Metropolitan Luka. – We pray that the Lord preserves the humanity in us all and preserves the image of God in every heart”.

Tomorrow, on November 26, 2017, Metropolitan Luka of Zaporizhzhya and Melitopol, with the blessing of the Primate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church His Beatitude Metropolitan Onufriy of Kyiv and All Ukraine, will consecrate the church in honour of St. Nicholas in the city of Boliden, and will establish the corresponding Ukrainian Orthodox parish, the organisers of which originally hail from Zaporizhzhya oblast and who are now residing in this region of Sweden.
